Town boss ignores poor Grimsby record

TOWN manager Gary Brabin isn’t paying any attention to previous results when his side travel to Grimsby Town for their televised Blue Square Bet Premier clash on Friday night, writes Mike Simmonds.

Hatters haven’t won at Blundell Park since the 1997/98 season and have only tasted victory once in their last 10 visits.

But Brabin, who was assistant when Luton were beaten 2-0 last year, doesn’t believe the players will be affected by the poor sequence of results.

He said: “That’s all in the past now. I genuinely believe we have to concentrate on ourselves.

“I think the one thing we need at the moment is back to back wins and the consistency is something we need to work on.

“We need to focus on our ourselves and start producing performances. We’re a good side, we’ve got some good players and I believe in what we’re capable of doing and that will be no different Friday.”

Leading scorer Amari Morgan-Smith will miss the trip once more, while midfielder Alex Lawless isn’t expected to be fit either.

Brabin said: “With Amari, it’s certainly weeks but the sooner we get him back the better.

“Alex is training with the group. He’s doing everything, but we’ve got to try and look after him contact wise. He’s still got a little bit of pain in his hand, it’s not fully healed just yet.”

Hatters go into the match on the back of a 1-0 home defeat to league leaders Wrexham on Tuesday night and Brabin felt it was he and not the players who should take the blame.

He added: “I probably take responsibility for Tuesday night, I know the reasons and think I could have done more to help the lads.

“I think I’ve been crying out for a bit of consistency in terms of team selection, looking back, I went with the team that finished against Gateshead.

“I usually go with my gut and I never did on Tuesday night and I’m taking sole responsibility for Tuesday night as where we fell short is where I thought we would.”
