Town boss confirms no bids have been made yet

HATTERS boss Gary Brabin confirmed there have no been bids for players coming in or going out of Kenilworth Road during the transfer window so far, writes Mike Simmonds.

When asked at this morning’s press conference, Brabin said: “Not at the moment, no. We’re always looking for someone who’se going to improve us though.

“There’s certainly not been any bids for our players. I know there’s a lot of interest, but no-one’s picked up the phone and enquired.

“We’ve not had any offers and we’re glad about that. We’re certainly not in any rush to sign anyone either.

“I’m not going to sit here and say we’re never going to sell anyone. I think there comes a point when it depends on the club, the amount that’s been offered, what the desires are of the individual as well.

“We’re certainly quite confident that at this moment in time we’re going to keep all our players, but if Barcelona phoned up and offered two million ponds for one of our players, I’m sure our board would have something to say about that!”

Brabin confirmed he is still looking to add to his squad though, with a striker at the top of his list.

He added: “There are a lot of players out there, but are they going to improve us? Matthew (Barnes-Homer) has gone, but we’ve done without Matthew all season.

“Amari (Morgan-Smith) is a concern but he’s missed a lot of games through injury, so that has been sorely missed and it is certainly one area we’d always like to improve on.

“We’re happy with the squad, it’s a good sized squad now, but if we can improve the quality, we’d be happy with that.”

Despite the return to form of Stuart Fleetwood and Danny Crow, while Morgan-Smith is still to come back, the Town boss admitted he would be interested in a different kind of forward option.

Brabin added: “We have different types of forwards and are more than happy we’ve got Stuart (Fleetwood) in the squad and we’re certainly not looking for another Stuart Fleetwood.

“If you have ambitions of being successful, you need players like Stuart Fleetwood bang on form.

“We keep saying if we add to the squad, it’s got to be a diffferent type of player to the way we want to do things. They’re not always easy to get and I certainly won’t be getting rushed into it.

“One of the things we’ve found is that if someone’s trying to get rid of someone and we enquire then they want to keep that player and all of a sudden they’ve got a big price tag on his head. I want pepole to come here because they want to play here.”
