Thomas: Players have no knowledge or influence on Buckle’s replacement

Town’s stars have no insight or say on who the new boss will be at Kenilworth Road, writes Mark Wood.

Experienced centre-half Wayne Thomas finally made his debut in Town’s 3-2 home defeat to Mansfield Town on Saturday, having never actually played for former boss Paul Buckle who signed him just two weeks before his departure.

And Thomas wants to concentrate on his football rather than worrying about who will be coming in, saying: “I’ve got no opinion, I’ve just come here to play football at the end of the day.

“None of the players have got any influence or know anything what’s happening.

“The fans know via internet websites and forums and what not what seems to be happening before the players.

“My mum texted me to ask me about how I felt about Paul leaving about one minute after we’d had the announcement from the chief executive before the game away.

“At the end of the day fans and media know more than the players do. We’re just paid to turn up and play football and try to win games.”

Buckle though had been key to Thomas signing for the Hatters as he continued: “Paul was one of the reasons why I signed here.

“Obviously I knew him and had experience of him and it was a bit of weird one that he was no longer the manager and I’d not had a chance to play for him.

“That’s it at the end of the day, decisions have been made.

“They’re out of our hands, it’s nothing to do with the players, it’s Paul personal decisions and that’s between him and the chairman and the chief executive.

“At the end of the day we’re paid to come here and play and get points on the board and that’s what we need to start concentrating on doing.”

And he doesn’t expect to know anything before any new boss is unveiled.

The former Stoke City defender added: “When the manager comes in (we’ll know). Unless we get told otherwise, the first time we will know is when a new manager comes in.

“Obviously there are rumours, but the rumours are the same rumours that the fans will hear, or the media will hear because at the end of the day we’re paid to come in and play.

“Neils (Alex Neilson) was here, Embo (Carl Emberson) was here, we’ve got our training and concentrating on the next game and trying to get three points there.

“There’s no point worrying about who’s going to come in, who’s not going to come in... Get on with the games on Saturday and try and do something.”
