Taylor pushing hard to bury Wembley demons

FIT-AGAIN full-back Greg Taylor is looking forward to his first taste of play-off football when the Hatters entertain Wrexham in their semi-final first leg at Kenilworth Road tonight, writes Mark Wood.

The 22-year-old defender has finally recovered from a groin injury that threatened to end his season.

He said: “It’s my first experience of the play-offs. That’s what motivated me to get back fit.

“I could easily have said no I need my time to get fit and call it a day, but I wanted to get in the mix of things and get back to Wembley.”

Having joined from Darlington earlier in the season, Taylor remains certain he made the right choice and believes where the Hatters finished counts for nothing in the play-offs.

He said: “When I was going to leave Darlington I had a couple of clubs I could have gone to but I thought this was probably the best place for me.

“I’m an ambitious person and I want to succeed. I felt Luton was the club for me at the time and I still do.

“Unless you go out and win the league outright I don’t think it matters where you finish in the play-offs.

“You are all going to play each other. You’ve all played each other before and you all know what each other are about.

“In this league anyone can beat anyone. It’s about on the day how you perform.”

If Luton can vanquish the Dragons, Taylor is dreaming of his first proper Wembley experience after missing out in the FA Trophy last year.

He added: “I would like to play at Wembley but that’s down to the gaffer and his team selection. I got to Wembley last year with Darlington in the FA Trophy but I wasn’t involved.

“It was horrible to go there because I was cup-tied. They offered me the chance to go and walk on the pitch and get involved and get a feel for it, but I refused to go on it.

“I did say to myself one day I will go and play on it again.

“Hopefully this is the year I do get to play on it if selected and that will put that right.”
