Taylor primed for Hatters recall

FULL back Greg Taylor is expected to make his return to the Hatters squad for Saturday’s crucial home clash with fellow play-off hopefuls Kidderminster Harriers, writes Mike Simmonds.

The 22-year-old has been out since the 1-1 draw at Darlington, missing the last eight games, but according to Town boss Paul Buckle, has been superb in training.

Speaking to the press this afternoon, the manager said: “Taylor looked fantastic today in training, so it was a big plus to have him back.

“It doesn’t look like he’s been out at all. He was flying in training this morning, it’s a case of keeping him back. He’s had enough rest now and is ready to come back.”

Midfielder Adam Watkins is also fit after coming off against Ebbsfleet on Tuesday night. It was the first start the England C star had made since Buckle took over, replacing Godfrey Poku, who the boss had been equally impressed with.

He said: “Watkins came off as a precaution with his hamstring, but he’s fine and trained.

“I thought he gave us a lot of legs and a lot of quality on Tuesday night.

“Godfrey’s done nothing wrong but we had to win the game. We spoke before and certainly didn’t want to be in the dressing room after the game thinking we should have gone for it.

“We were looking for every detail as to how we could win the game. It was a positive move.

“Godfrey’s been part of the team the last few games and the boy Watkins came in and did ever so well.

“His timing of runs could be a little bit better, but he’s a young lad, a great prospect and fitted in perfectly.”

Meanwhile, although striker Amari Morgan-Smith suffered a setback to his comeback, Buckle remains hopeful he will play some sort of part in the run-in.

He added: “Simon (Parsell, physio) is working really hard with him. We’re hopeful in the next week for him. The boy is desperate to get back. We’ve got him in to see a couple of top people so we’ll leave it in their capable hands.”
