The 23-year-old, who has since signed for Cambridge United, felt he let himself down with his performances after Still was appointed as he said: “When John Still came in he gave everyone a clean sheet.

“I’ve got nothing bad to say about the man, I’ve only got the utmost respect for him.

“I wasn’t playing well enough at the time, although I would have loved to have stayed.”

Although disappointed not to have impressed Still, Taylor turned his campaign around as he joined Mansfield Town on loan and helped them to the title, picking up a Conference winners medal in the process.
