The 23 year-old, who has signed a two-year deal at the U’s, said: “I’ve had a few offers. After last season I just want to get settled and kick on like I should have done last season.”

Taylor was loaned out to Tamworth and Mansfield last term, with whom he won the Conference, and was glad to find some familiar faces at the Abbey Stadium.

He said: “I’ve played there a few times and it’s always been one of my favourite grounds in the league.

“The pitch is immaculate and the fans are always noisy which is a big factor when you play against Cambridge. I already know Ian Miller, Adam Cunnington and Richard Tait so it’s nice to come into a team where you know a few people. They’re all good lads and I’m happy to be working with them again.”

On how the move came about and his aims for the new season, Taylor said: “I have been speaking to Jez (George) and Richard (Money) for a while now and we agreed to meet for a chat.

“They were both very positive regarding where the club was heading, what they could offer me and where they saw the team going this season.

“I wanted to be a part of that and I wanted to get settled somewhere this season, I believe Cambridge is the place for me to do that.

“My goals are to play as many games as I can and perhaps prove a few people wrong.

“I just want to enjoy my football and show the supporters what I am capable of.”

Taylor spoke about his experiences at the hands of former boss Paul Buckle in our sister papers the Luton News/Dunstable Gazette this week.

And although experiencing an up-and-down season Taylor admitted he was grateful to have played a part in Town’s run to the fifth round of the FA Cup after being sent out on loan to Tamworth.

He added: “I didn’t expect to come back and be thrown straight in. I thought I did well and think I nailed it down for a couple of games. The FA Cup was an unbelievable run we had and I was just very fortunate to be part of it.”
