Taylor captured as Murray’s deregistered

HIGHLY-RATED Darlington left-back Greg Taylor has signed on loan for the Hatters until January and will subsequently join permanently for an undisclosed fee.

The-21-year-old defender has been ever-present this season for Town’s Blue Square Bet Premier rivals, and Luton moved for his signature after a second knee operation on Freddie Murray meant he is unlikely to play again this season.

The England C international will sign an 18-month contract in January and Murray, who is out of contract next summer, has now been officially been deregistered as to allow him to focus on his rehabilitation.

Taylor, who was born in Bedford and started his career as career as a youngster with Northampton Town, has been handed Murray’s old number three shirt.

Brabin said: “Greg is a real competitor, young, fit and has two great feet.

“His favoured position is left-back and we’ve brought him here to play there.

“He’s versatile though and can play anywhere in defence. He actually played in centre-mid against us earlier this season and I thought he was their best player.

“He’s a young lad who is ready for us now. I want to get good young players into the side that are capable of getting even better.

“He’s been on my radar for a while now and that performance against us really stood out. I think he’s really matured this season and it’s great to have him on board.

“The icing on the cake is he’s a Bedford lad, he’s local and he knows how important Luton Town is to the local area.”

His only appearance for the Cobblers was a substitute in a League Cup tie against Bolton Wanderers at the Reebok Stadium, but he is cup tied for the visit of his former club on Saturday.

He signed for Kettering Town in the summer of 2009 and moved to Darlo in January, where he’s scored twice in 19 games.
