Tamworth boss praises his side’s ‘character and spirit’

Tamworth caretaker boss Dale Belford praised his side’s ‘character and spirit’ as they held on to claim a goalless draw at Kenilworth Road on Saturday, writes Mark Wood.

He admitted his side had been on the back foot throughout, but praised their determination, saying: “It was absolutely fantastic, I’m really proud of the lads. They’ve given absolutely everything on a very difficult pitch and it was like a throwback to years gone by players don’t complain and grumble and the referee gets on with it. Fantastic.

“In terms of chances Luton were far and away above ourselves, but we showed a lot of character and spirit and dug in and it’s a fantastic point to come here and keep a clean sheet and get a point and I think the referee contributed fantastically well with his performance.”

Belford, who is hoping to get the job full-time, added: “We’ve taken over 12 games ago and at the moment we’re doing OK. But the biggest thing is just to continue doing what we’re doing and everything will look after itself because football is a results business we all know that.

“It’s easy to speak about myself but you’ve seen out there it’s all about players. They showed fantastic commitment and determination to dig out a great point for us here.”
