The 27-year-old was reunited with new Town boss John Still, signing until the end of the season on Thursday.

It was Still who plucked Taiwo from non-league obscurity while at former club Dagenham & Redbridge, before selling him to Cardiff City for £250,000.

Taiwo’s career in Wales never really took off and he hasn’t settled anywhere since.

Speaking to the News/Gazette, he said: “I haven’t really been as committed as I probably should have.

“I’ve taken my foot off the pedal, but it’s time to put all that behind me and start again.”

Taiwo readily admitted being back in non-league wasn’t what he had hoped for, saying: “It’s not ideal, there’s no doubt about it.

“It’s going to hurt me and mentally it’s going to challenge me, that’s what happens in life.”
