Taiwo: Hatters want to win every bit as much as Harriers

Midfielder Solomon Taiwo won’t pay too much attention to the fact that Town are taking on the Blue Square Bet Premier leaders Kidderminster Harriers at Kenilworth Road this afternoon, writes Mike Simmonds.

Harriers are locked in an intense title battle with Mansfield Town, with just one point separating the pair, but Taiwo: “Why should they have more to play for than we have? They are playing what they are playing for, we’re playing what were playing for. It’s just as important. They want to win the league, but we want to get results, so should be the same.

“It’s going to be a tough one. I don’t really look at tables too much, it’s just take each game as it comes.

“But it’s been identified, although they’ve played a game and are going to be as tired as we are so going to be level pegging.”

Any hopes Town had of winning the league disappeared a while ago, and they are still 10 points off the play-offs as Taiwo continued: “You never ever know. As long as its still mathematically possible, you’ve got to fight for it and even if we’re not there, we’ve still got to go for pride to win games.”

The midfielder picked up his first goal for the club on Saturday after converting a second half penalty against Cambridge United and felt the point was deserved for Town’s second half display, adding: “I think they came out well, first half they were a bit on top of us.

“Second half we came out harder after a good team talk by the gaffer, and I think overall it was even and think it was fair.

“I think sometimes at the back of your minds some players might have Monday in the back of their minds and thinking you’ve to conserve a bit.

“But you’ve got to worry about that on Tuesday and rest and do what you’ve got to do then.”
