Hatters’ play-off hopes this year are hanging by a threat as they trail fifth-placed Grimsby Town by 10 points with just eight games left.

Although not wanting to give up altogether, Taiwo is well aware that their best chance will be once Still has had a pre-season to get his ideas across.

He said: “It’s hard to speculate and foresee. I’m always positive and think best scenario and would still incline to say we can do something this season.

“But I think we’re behind and are looking for good results away from us. Next season will be a whole different kettle of fish.

“He’s (Still) already brought in so many new ideas, the players are ready, there’s a bit more bite, a bit more fight, and that’s just in four, five games.

“When you’ve got pre-season games, to build things, get to be a bit more relaxed, before you know it, everyone’s on the same hymn sheet.

On the tests that both Cambridge and Kidderminster will present over the next three days, Taiwo continued: “It’s hard to focus on other teams. If you focus on other teams a bit too much and take away from you can do.

“From what I’ve seen, and I’ve played a bit higher and played under Stilly, there should be no reason why we shouldn’t beat every team we play against.

“The first game (Stockport), we absolutely battered them, and the game after (Tamworth), we should have battered them as well, but we didn’t score.

“Once we start scoring it will be a different game. We’ve got to come with that positive outlook and not worry about what other teams can do.

“Fingers crossed the weather picks up a bit as we’re going to go there with the same mentality that we have the last two three games.

“We’re out to win, out to perform, outrun the other team, mentally out battle the team and hopefully come away with three points, it’s all about winning now.”

How much of an impact Taiwo will have in both games is up to the boss, who also wants to look at young midfielder Matt Robinson, although the former Cardiff City man has been impressed by his own levels of match sharpness since joining.

He said: “I’ve surprised myself in terms of my fitness. Ideally I’d have liked to play one more behind closed doors game before I played, but it’s been all right really.

“It’s the manager’s decision, how we play, how hard the teams are will dictate how much he rotates.

“It depends on the pitch, depends on whether it’s going to be really hard on the body.”

Still had hoped to just limit his new signing for an hour in his previous two matches, but has kept him on for the entire game as Taiwo added: “It kind of gets forced on them, it’s hard when you’re only winning 1-0 or you’re drawing to change the dynamics of the team.

“I’m sure he would only have wanted to play me for 60 minutes, but when the team’s playing, well everything’s solid, you’ve got to look at what’s best for the team.

“If he wants me to play 90 minutes, I have to play 90 minutes and then suffer the consequences the following day!”
