Sweet: Bees relegation could harm Conference’s promotion hopes

The relegation of Barnet into the Conference appears to have damaged the league’s chances of securing a three up, three down system of promotion and relegation into the Football League, writes Mark Wood.

Town managing director Gary Sweet admitted they have lost their biggest ally as a result as he said: “Unfortunately the main supporter of the three up, three down in the Football League was Tony Kleanthous at Barnet who is a good friend of ours.

“We’ve spoken to Tony a number of times about it and he would have been supportive if he had stayed in League Two, but he has come into our league.

“We have spoken to individual clubs but there isn’t somebody with the same energy Tony had to try and promote that.”
