Swans boss angered by red card

Staines Town boss Marcus Gayle blasted referee Colin Lymer for sending off Jordaan Brown during his side’s 0-0 draw against Luton Town in the FA Trophy first round on Saturday.

Brown picked up two bookings in the opening half an hour, both for handball, as he was dismissed, but Gayle felt that Hatters’ players weren’t penalised for the same offences.

Gayle told getSURREY: “The ref has influenced the game for two soft handballs.

“He was poor and I went to tell him that to his face after the game and if I get told off for that, I don’t care.

“I’m entitled to free speech and entitled to an opinion. The ref had an opinion for 90 minutes and he almost cost us the game.

Luton players were doing the same thing and nothing happened. We were up against a very good young Luton Town side and we feel what happened was an injustice.”

With 10 men, Swans put up a fighting display, although were indebted to a man of the match display from goalkeeper Jack Turner for remaining in the tie.

Gayle continued: “Full credit to my players they never gave up one ball.

“We had a set game-plan for the second half with 10 men and the players stuck to it. Jack’s made three or four top-class saves. The outfield players had to dig in all day long and we made chances too but the boys are really disappointed.”

The teams meet again at Kenilworth Road this evening for the opportunity to host Wrexham in the next round and Gayle believes they have every chance of causing an upset.

He added: “We are capable of doing it regardless of what kind of side they put out.

“If they put a stronger side out then hey, credit to us. If they want to play the same side then we know we have got a definite chance as long as we have 11 men on the pitch.”
