The Latics netted the youngster on an 18-month deal from Stockport County for an undisclosed fee as a largely otherwise quiet deadline day passed at Kenilworth Road on Friday.

Turner, 18, had joined the Conference North side in the summer and scored six goals in 14 games and is believed to have watched Luton beat Nuneaton 3-0 last time out.

He said: “He’s an 18-year-old striker that we’d seen and we’d liked and did speak to him.

“We were only really an outside chance, but it was something that we did have an interest in.”

Still distanced himself from former target Michael Spillane though following his release from title rivals Cambridge United, revealing he wasn’t interested in acquiring the service of the defender he managed at Dagenham & Redbridge.

However, the Luton chief is continuing to view future targets as he missed the Leighton Town game last Tuesday night to cast his eye elsewhere.
