Striker believes Hatters can lay down a marker

A run of winnable games gives the Hatters a real chance to lay down a marker of their title credentials according to striker Scott Rendell, writes Mark Wood.

He netted twice in the 3-1 win against Southport on Saturday to take him to five goals for the season.

With Luton going to lowly Lincoln City on Saturday and then hosting Braintree Town and Nuneaton Town, before visiting title rivals Forest Green Rovers, Rendell is in no doubt the Hatters have a chance to get into their stride.

He said: “There’s no easy game in this league no matter where you go, home or away against anyone.

“But they’re games you would expect to win.

“It’s a chance for us, that’s all it is. It’s a chance for us to put a marker down now.

“I think if we win those games that will push us up to six wins in a row coming from Tamworth and that is league-winning form.

“But we just need to concentrate on next Saturday now, get ourselves ready throughout the week and we’ve got to make sure we get another three points and look ahead after that.

“It’s a good chance for us to go and put a marker down now.”

Rendell has been delighted with the way the Hatters have bounced back from a three-game winless run, including bad defeats at Alfreton and Grimsby, by winning their last two.

He added: “Like I said after Grimsby, you are going to lose games in this league.

“Every team has a little slump here and there, and hopefully we’ve had ours because we’ve come out after losing at Grimsby and turned it around.

“We’ve won two out of two, Tamworth is a tough place to go.

“They’re doing well this year and it is a tough place to go on a windy, rainy Tuesday night.

“To come away with three points I think showed a lot of guts from the team and this result followed that up.

“We just need to take this result (Southport), take the positives, move it on and hopefully we can keep moving up the league.”
