Still yet to make decisions on Luton loan duo
Hatters boss is John Still is keen to get through the festive period before deciding whether or not to renew the loans of Joe Davis and Alfie Mawson, writes Mark Wood.
Still saw on-loan West Ham United start Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu return to Upton Park this week, but is yet to talk properly with Port Vale and Brentford about renewing the deals for the defensive duo.
He said: “I haven’t really looked to deep for different reasons because without making too much conversation with the clubs that they’ve come from I’m aware that what happens today can change tomorrow with what happens with injuries because of the amount of games that you’re playing.
“So in my mind I’m getting this week out of the way and then I’ll give it thought.
“All of the lads that we’ve had here, Pelly’s done fantastic, Joe has done fantastic, I really, really feel for Alfie because he started in front of Joe, because I felt he was little bit fitter, but he got a nasty cut on his foot that ruled him out, and Joe came in.
“Alfie couldn’t play in the FA Trophy and Joe played again there and then Joe’s fitness level was a little bit higher than Alfie’s and Joe’s come in and not really put a foot wrong.
“So he’s done really, really well, and Alfie hasn’t had the opportunity that maybe he would have had, but it’s given us a little strength in that department while Anthony Charles was getting fit and he’s training regularly now.”
And whether or not he looks to renew the deals may well depend on the fitness of defenders Alex Lacey, Anthony Charles and Andy Parry, who have all struggled with injury at times this season.
“I’ve tried to put the loan situation out until probably the end of this week, and that’s when I will have a look and see the fitness of Anthony Charles, see the fitness of Lacey and then I’ll decide really if we need to do something.”
