Still will only sign ‘special’ someone before window shuts

Hatters boss John Still will only move before the transfer window closes on Monday if something special presents itself, writes Mike Simmonds.

The Luton manager signed striker Paul Benson on loan earlier in the week, but isn’t pursuing any specific targets at the moment, preferring to let his summer acquisitions prove themselves first.

He said: “I’m not looking actively every day but if something comes up for us, then obviously we’ll have an interest in that.

“Sometimes you can run away with the fact we’ve lacked a forward and you can starting panicking about that and rush out and get someone,.

“I’m not unhappy with the squad that we’ve got and if something really special comes up, then we’d have an interest, but we’re not actively looking.

“It’s important that you bring players in and you give them the correct time to settle. It’s so easy to disregard something when it isn’t the best thing straight away and I think that the foolish man does that.

“The clever man looks at what they produced elsewhere, the ingredients that the person has, stays with that and gives it the time to flourish. I think it’s always better to be a wise man than a foolish man.”
