Still will keep faith with squad for Cambridge replay

Youngsters Ian Rees and Luke Trotman are in contention for a start, although Still confirmed that Jake Howells was unlikely to feature ahead of Saturday’s Skrill Premier clash against Wrexham.

With the winners away to Eastleigh in the fourth round, Still said: “It will be very similar, there will be one or two changes, I’m not sure we’ll play Jake Howells, so we’ll have to have a look at this.

“Some of the youth team lads will come in and we’ll see how they cope. It’s a great opportunity for them but it’s also for the more senior players who need game-time.

“One of the pleasing things for me (on Saturday) was Charlo (Anthony) stuck to it for 90 minutes, (Solomon) Taiwo, who I thought did very, very well, stuck to it for 90 minutes.

“I was really, really pleased that they managed to get that amount of time.”

Striker Jon Shaw is also in line for his start since August 26, as Still had wanted to see him in tandem with youngster Zane Banton at the weekend.

He said: “I would like to have got Zane on as my intention was to get Zane and Jon Shaw on with half an hour to go, but tactially I wanted to change it around a little bit.

“Hopefully we will get to see that on Tuesday.”

Meanwhile, Still also admitted that midfielder David Viana, who had impressed during the first half, was withdrawn during the break for tactical reasons.

He continued: “It was tactical. He did (play well), but you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do.”

Still was also pleased with forward Alex Wall, who notched his second goal of the season, but confirmed he was taken off for his own safety after picking up a booking.

He said: “I took him off as I didn’t want him to get sent off. He’s got another hour and a bit in, so he’ll be ready on Tuesday.”

Cambridge boss Richard Money had questioned Town’s decision not to play extra time on the day and whether the Kenilworth Road pitch would be in good condition after the New Year Day soaking it received.

Still added: “I haven’t seen the pitch since the last time we played on it, so I haven’t got a clue.”

Money has also revealed he will be making changes to the side from Saturday as he told the Cambridge Evening News: “There’s no way you can play the same 11 and those that didn’t start on Saturday will start tonight.

“People need to recognise where this club is and the size of club has been shown by the strength in squads and the number of players that people can call upon, but we’re just proud we’re competing with that.”
