Still: We played the conditions perfectly

On a boggy pitch that was heavily sanded in parts, Town battled past their opponents to record a 10th straight home victory in the Skrill Premier.

He said: “There are times in the year when you’ve got to play to suit the conditions and weve shown great quality on good pitches and at times, we did show great quality out there.

“It wasn’t easy for both teams in the first half, it was really difficult, but we’ve started well second half.

“We were probably slower into the game than we would normally be but once we got the pace of the game, we marshalled the conditions very, very well.

“I think we’ve shown really good quality and good ability to play the conditions as much as anyone else.”

Just after Andre Gray had put Town in front moments after the interval, a storm of almost biblical proportions hit Kenilworth Road as both sets of players and management staff fled to the safety of the dressing room for cover.

Referee Adam Bromley brought the teams back out after a delay of around 10 minutes, with Gray going on to complete his hat-trick.

Still continued: “When it started as it did, however long that was going to last was going to be a problem.

“I don’t know if it would have taken an awful lot more (to see the game called off) and when the hailstones came it actually hurt you.

“I think the referee was absolutely right to bring everybody off.

“He said, I just want this to stop and then we’ll come back and fortunately it stopped at a decent time.

“A blind person would have known you’d got to come off as you couldn’t even see the ball, the way it was coming down was so hard, it was sweeping across.

“That sort of situation was different from the Barnet one as you could see the ball in that one. You’ve got to be careful that people don’t get injured.”

New signing Cameron McGeehan conceded the conditions at times were the worst he had ever played in.

He said: “It was unbelievable, I’ve never had anything like that before, it (hailstones) were hitting you in the face and it’s hurting so you had to run off as quick as you can.

“I think the the lads have played in worse conditions than that, Barnet at home was twice as bad as that.

“It was good to get the goal and get back in there as we knew we were on top. We’ve shown anywhere we can win and we can win ugly, so we just need to keep grinding out the results and stay top of the table.”

Boro boss Kevin Wilkin added: “It was tough, but the same for both sides as I always say, so no excuses on that front.

“The second half we had the storm, it felt like the wind got up and was in our face and it felt like Luton were right in our faces too.

“It was difficult, but it’s important we learn from what it’s all about and learn from places like this and make sure next time we’re in this position, we do a bit better.”
