Still wants a full insight into Hatters squad

The learning process is continuing in earnest for Town manager John Still as he gets his feet firmly under the table at Kenilworth Road, writes Mike Simmonds.

The former Dagenham & Redbridge chief has been in charge at Luton for just under a month now and is still finding out about the squad he inherited from previous boss Paul Buckle.

Still said: “I think every day I do something with the players I learn something, good or bad, and I don’t see that changing really until the end of the season.

“I’ve had a little tinker, I’ll keep having that, which will hopefully give me a full insight into every player until the end of season.”

Town were unbelievably poor last time out losing 2-1 to relegation threatened Hyde and while Still can take defeat on the chin, he can’t stomach any repeat performances.

He added: “Losing is inevitable, and it’s not just the losing, because you’re going to lose and we’re going to lose again.

“Sometimes it’s how you lose and why you lose, they’re the important things. If you can look at it and be objective about it, you can take the positives out of it, because sometimes you learn more in adversity than you do otherwise.

“We actually did enough on entries into the box to get enough goals to win the game, but although we were unlucky a couple of times, we didn’t have enough efforts at goal for the amount of balls into the box.

“We made a glaring error for the penalty and gave ascendancy to the other team, that was disappointing.

“I keep saying it’s small steps at the moment, but what I mustn’t deviate off of the path I believe we have to go down to make us stronger, make us better, make us more competitive and make us into a team that can get out of the league.”
