Still unaware over extent of Guttridge injury

Hatters boss John Still admitted he didn’t know the extent of the injury suffered by influential midfielder Luke Guttridge, writes Mike Simmonds.

The summer signing, who has nine goals to his name, limped from the field on 50 minutes after injuring himself while taking a shot at goal during the 0-0 draw at Lincoln City yesterday.

When asked if he knew what the injury was, Still said: “I haven’t even spoken to the physio, so I don’t know what it was, I was so wound up in the game.”

Despite an energy-sapping 2-1 victory over Barnet just a few days beforehand, Still kept faith with the same starting 11, saying: “I couldn’t change it after that. The lads were fantastic, the understanding was fantastic as well.

“I wasn’t sure how conditions would go and they were used to it.

“We changed with Kane (Ferdinand) coming on for Luke, but other than that I was comfortable.”

The boss wasn’t surprised by the lack of clear cut chances for either side too, as Lincoln had scored 10 and conceded just seven in their previous 11 home games.

Still said: “We thought it would be tight. They like to play the one in front of the back four and you don’t always get opportunities to get the ball into people’s feet because of the screen.

“But I thought we actually did as there were a couple of times we just got inside there with Andre (Gray).

“But we didn’t and it didn’t and there you are. As as I said, on the day, it was a good battling performance.”

The result saw Town make it 19 games unbeaten in the league, equalling a club record set twice during the 1960s.

Still added: “That’s nice, but does it win us the league? The most important thing is not to break records, but be successful.”
