Hatters boss John Still admitted it was the right time to release midfielder Danny Spiller, writes Mike Simmonds.

The 31-year-old was signed by former manager Paul Buckle before the start of last season, but never featured for Town in a competitive game due to a succession of injuries.

He tried to make a comeback, playing in development games against Charlton and Gillingham, but needed to undergo another operation on his achilles and is expected to miss the coming campaign too.

Spiller left the club by mutual consent last week as Still said: “It was the right time wasn’t it, the right time for it to happen for everybody as hHe wasn’t going to play this season.

“I spoke to him on many occasions, and we agreed it was the right thing to do.”
