Still thrilled to be back at Kenilworth Road once more

Town have been racking up the miles in recent weeks, playing their last six matches away from home, equalling a 100 year old club record.

Still said: “It seems strange. I had to ask the other day what the last home game was, I couldn’t remember.

“It’s good to be playing back at home, there’s been a lot of travelling, but when I look back at the big picture of it all, I’ve been really pleased with what we’ve done and lets hope we can push on now Saturday and Tuesday.”

Defender Scott Griffiths was also looking forward to getting back on to home soil again as he said: “It will be a great chance to get three points.

“A lot of people can’t make the far away trips, so it would be good to get back and play for the home crowd again.”

On Town’s away run which saw them take eight points from 12, while winning at Woking and losing against Welling in the FA Cup, Still said: “When you go away from home, although you don’t play with a different mentality, I don’t anyway, I think you can be affected by things that you wouldn’t be at home.

“In the players’ mind, with five or 10 minutes to go away from home in a game you’re drawing, without me even doing anything, I think the emphasis for them is don’t lose.

“When you’re at home I think it’s win. There’s a slightly different mentality attached to it, but it doesn’t come from me, I try to win away from home.

“As a player, if you can come away from home saying we’ve got something, that’s a plus.

“As a manager, I’d sooner go for three points and lose one, but I understand. When I was a player, I’d have gone hold on, five minutes to go, lets not give anything away, lets be tight, lets make sure we do this properly and get something from the game.

“Maybe there’s been a game or two where if we’d have really pushed, we’d have got the three points, equally there may have been one or two if we’d have really pushed, got beat and got no points.

“But if I look at the big picture, I’ve been really, really pleased.”

If he had to go through the away sequence again though, Still admitted he might have been set up his side even more positively.

The boss added: “Character wise, organisation wise, commitment wise, fitness wise, we don’t have a problem.

“Maybe if we got that run again, we maybe a touch more adventurous.

“It’s really hard to explain, it’s easy for me to say on the bench we’re going to go forward.

“We did at Chester, I said don’t see the game out, lets put this run of away games to bed with a win.

“I think we might have put a touch more adventure in our play, but we’ve had a great run, so it’s difficult to find a negative.”
