Still sympathetic as Richards retires

A career-ending injury has seen Garry Richards leave Luton Town by mutual consent this week just over a season into his two-year deal, writes Mark Wood.

The 27-year-old signed from Gillingham on a free last summer, but a series of injuries meant he never got to play a competitive game for the Hatters.

Despite operations and spells of rehabilitation on an ankle injury that was triggered during Town’s pre-season trip to Portugal, he never recovered.

Boss John Still said: “I’ve known Garry for a long time and I know when he had his injury how difficult he found it, how hard he tried to get back.

“But he’s decided to put a halt on his career at a young age really. So I do feel for him and like all of us here we do wish him good luck.”
