With Luton not in action, the boss had opted to take in the Blue Square Bet South fixture, but saw the game called off just before it was due to start.

He said: “I got in my car at twenty past 11 and I drove to Dorchester. I got there at ten to three just in time for the referee to say the game is off.

“I left there at three o’clock and got home at quarter past seven. The roads and the weather was appalling, but what can you do?

“So, not the best for me, but fortunately all our scouting system found games even though one of them was called off after an hour, but trust me to pick the one!

“I spent eight and a bit hours in the car but I’ve had worse trips. I’ve been further and the game’s been off, or the player’s not played, but that’s life.

“The lads that have been out have been fantastic, working and working to give us the best opportunity to find what we want.”

On his extensive search for players, Still admitted he would always take the opportunity to view a target for himself rather than just watch a DVD.

He added: “There’s nothing like being there. I like to see a player warm up and warm down, seriously.

“I went to watch a player once at Dagenham and I left after the warm up. He loped around, didn’t really want to warm up properly, wasn’t part of what the others were doing and I thought you’re never going to be for me.

“Touch wood I’ve been proved right as he never went on to do anything. I think it’s important how they are, do they prepare properly. I’m not a lover of people who don’t.

“I like to see people be professional. It’s important to look at those things. I’ve been at a place (Dagenham) where were found so many players it’s untrue and those are guides we go by.”
