Still rues Town’s finishing in Tamworth stalemate

The hosts had a number of chances, particularly in the second half, but were off target as Still said: “I thought we defended fantastic, I thought we created very, very good opportunties to score, but they didn’t go in.

“It was a combination of reasonable defending, difficult conditions, poor finishing, but I thought we played well enough.

“I was really pleased at the amount of balls we got into the box. One thing I wasn’t pleased about, I felt there were opportunities we should have hit the target when we didn’t and there were a few reasons for that, perhaps not being clinical enough ourselves.”

Striker Alex Wall had the best chance, heading wide from a pinpoint Jon Shaw cross in the second half Still continued: “That’s one of the incidents we should have scored at. The ball was in the air, so it wasn’t a difficult bounce. He got in a great position, headed it in the right area, that’s where you should score.

“We had two or three of those where we should have at least made the goalkeeper save it.”

Town forced 16 corners throughout and after scoring from a setpiece on Tuesday night, Still thought they should have made more of the deadball situations.

He said: “Absolutely, 100 per cent. We haven’t been doing an awful amount of attacking work because we haven’t had a lot of time, but that is an area, with the amount we had, we should be making the goalkeeper make saves.

“There’s a couple of disappointments to be honest, but not too many.”

Although Town drew a blank in front of their own fans, Still felt that the players were starting to grasp how he wants them to perform.

He said: “I think they understand how we want to play, how quickly we want to make the game.

“It wasn’t easy, but there are good signs. We’ve got so much we’ve got to do but there’s got to be a start point.

“The little bits we do in training, there are bits we’re seeing in games. We haven’t won, but the fans didn’t boo, they the clapped players off because of the work-rate and effort for both teams, in what were really difficult conditions.

On the game getting the go ahead after a fine effort from Town’s staff and supporters and even referee Adam Bromley to clear the pitch of snow, Still added: “Everyone did fantastic to be fair. It was just about playable. The snow wasn’t the problem, the condition of the pitch would have been a problem, but it was playable and I’m glad to get it on.”
