Still prepared to bide his time over transfer targets

Hatters boss John Still confirmed he has identified targets to bring to the club before the transfer deadline on Monday evening, but will bide his time if they don’t become available, writes Mike Simmonds.

Still added striker Paul Benson to his squad on Monday, but with just one day remaining, he said: “I have targets, I had targets when I first came and I still have targets.

“But I’m not going to sign anybody. If I can’t get my targets, I’m going to wait, as I did with Paul (Benson). I’m going to wait and wait and if we have to suffer a little bit (we will), but I won’t end up with players that I don’t want.

“I know who I want, the type I want and I know exactly where they are. I’m going to do everything I can to get them and if I’ve got to wait for them I’ll wait for them, but if I get them, they’ll be good.”

On whether there will be any new arrivals before the window closes, he added: “I really don’t know. I pick the phone up and speak to people regularly, and if the timing’s right then yes, and if the timing isn’t right then okay, we’ll wait.

“What’s important to me is to get the right type that I want, it’s vital for me. I’m going to wait until I get the right type.”
