Still points to Spillane deal after Money’s wages claims

Hatters boss John Still has rubbished former Town manager Richard Money’s claims in last week’s News/Gazette that Town are paying their squad huge wages, writes Mike Simmonds.

Money, who is now in charge of Luton’s main Skrill Premier title rivals Cambridge United, had said Town were shelling out ‘League One salaries’.

But Still laughed off the claims and pointed to negotiations in trying to tempt former Town loanee Mickey Spillane, now at Cambridge, back to the club earlier in the season.

He said: “I wouldn’t know what resources Cambridge have, but what I do know is when we spoke to Mickey Spillane, we couldn’t match the offer that Cambridge made.

“Since I’ve been here, I’ve purposefully bought the budget down, but that’s not something I want to get into.

“I’m just going to worry about Luton and the finance side of Cambridge is nothing to do with me.”

Still questioned the reasoning and timing behind Money’s outburst too as he continued: “Maybe he’s trying to draw one or two people into something away from football, get our mind off it, but we don’t worry about that, we just keep our mind on football.”
