Still pleased with Gray despite striker being unable to replicate his recent impact

Town chief John Still was pleased with the performance of recalled striker Andre Gray in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Macclesfield Town, writes Mark Wood.

And while he failed to have the impact he’d had from the bench in the last two games, Still was satisfied with his showing, saying: “Andre has come on in the couple of game that we’ve had and done really, really well. But it’s different starting. It’s different. Andre started really slow pre-season, I felt he was a little bit behind.

“Twice he’s come on in the games he’s really lit the game up for us and he played today and did OK.

“I’ve got nothing against it today, but he done OK. He’s still finding his feet. Some start pre-season slower than others and he’s probably been a little bit behind. But he’s got 90 minutes today and I think that will stand him in good stead.”

Keeper Mark Tyler was also busy throughout, and Still believes his experience was vital in helping young centre-half Alex Lacey.

He added: “Mark’s an experienced goalkeeper. We need that experience, we need that to rub off on the young ones, particularly someone like Lacey in front of him, we need that to rub off. But listen, Mark’s a good goalkeeper, so we know by and large what we’re going to get from him.”
