Still not getting carried away by Arsenal demolition job

Hatters boss John Still wasn’t getting carried away by his side’s 7-0 thrashing of an Arsenal XI at Kenilworth Road yesterday, writes Mike Simmonds.

The boss saw Luton run riot against their Premier League opponents, who fielded a team made up of U18s and U21s, although did include Nico Yennaris, who has Premier League experience and highly-rated Thomas Eisfeld.

Still said: “We played well, we know they were quite young, but they had four or five very good players, very highly rated players.

“Whoever you play against you’ve got to do the job and I felt we did the job.

“We knew at the time what they were going to do because of the Emirates Cup, so I’m not stupid.

“But we knew we were going to play against a passing team who were going to move the ball and we were going to have to work hard, regardless of the squad.

“It wasn’t going to be a stroll in the park. We spoke about when teams have a lot of possession about winning the ball and attacking quickly and it couldn’t have worked better for us.

“Win the ball high up the pitch, force people into mistakes and it was a good day. But I keep saying this has been pre-season, it’s been very, very good, but the real stuff is to come, so what’s gone has gone.”
