Still makes a case for Town’s defence

Town head to Salisbury today having not been breached in the last four games as Still said: “They have done remarkably well, but that’s defending all over the pitch and scoring all over the pitch.

“Scott Griffiths made a goal on Saturday by getting up there, while Jake Howells got back once and got an important toe to the ball.

“If I go back to the sart of the season, we worked tremendously hard on defending and weren’t really conceding, we weren’t scoring either.

“When we put that bit together, we’ve shown we’re capable of scoring and capable of defending.

“Both ends of the pitch we can be very good, when you score sometimes the support comes from defensive players and when you don’t concede sometimes it’s efforts from players at the front.

“Paul Benson’s work-rate is phenomenal, Jake Howells works his socks off, Andre (Gray) is getting back and doing the ugly side of the game.

“It’s pleasing when you don’t concede and this being a team game, when you score, praise goes to the people who get the goals.

“When you’re not conceding, praise goes to back four and goalkeeper but everyone has played their part at both ends.”

The like of Steve McNulty, Ronnie Henry, Paul Benson and Scott Griffiths have all experienced winning the Conference before as has Still himself, and he thinks that is playing a part during the run-in.

He added: “I think that it’s important but equally as important is the ambition of the players to push themselves to the maximum.

“How ambitious, how hungry are people for success? Ambition and hunger is nothing to do with age, just having people who want to do as well as they can for themselves.

“Football over the years has changed, it is a young man’s game, but people play to they’re 38 if they’re fit and look after themselves.

“We have good coaches here, we have Dave Richardson who’s a fantastic conditioning coach.

“People want to prolong their careers and make their careers better and are ambitious. I believe that’s what we have here and believe that’s one of the things that will push us.”
