Still to make decisions on his coaching set-up

Busy Hatters boss John Still revealed he hasn’t even had time to consider whether there will be more changes to his coaching staff following the departures of Carl Emberson and Stuart Cash last week, writes Mark Wood and Mike Simmonds

Both were brought in by predecessor Paul Buckle, and Still said: “Will there be more changes? You know what, I haven’t even given that a thought yet.

“That change was made and unfortunately it meant two people leaving the club which I always find that side difficult.

“These were two really, really good, hard-working, honest people who both understand the game. So that makes it easier when people understand the game.”

Still was full of praise for the departing duo and admitted he was grateful to have assistant Terry Harris and his scouting network already in place.

He added: “It’s a difficult situation because when a new manager comes into a club like myself coming in here.

“The success that we’ve gained elsewhere wasn’t just me, it’s the people that work with you. My coaches, my scouting system, all the people around you.

“When I came in I brought Terry with me, well it was too many people.

“I didn’t grab a gun and shoot two people. I took my time to see how we could work and the way it would work and then sat down with Stuart and Carl, who were brilliant, very supportive, very hard working, good people.

“Then there came a time when I felt that it was the right time to tell them. Because, at the end of the season, be it players or staff, it’s like a mad rush, there’s hundreds of people looking for clubs.

“I felt it was the right thing to do to tell them that we won’t be keeping them and that if they wanted to talk to the club it might give them an opportunity to start throwing their net a little bit further afield and see what comes in.

“But it was never a reflection on them, it was the fact that Terry has worked with me for nine years.

“I have brought my entire scouting system with me.

“I can’t bring staff from my former club other than Terry this season. But I felt that with Terry here and my scouting network with me, I have good support from Alan (Neilson) and Dimi (Kharine), that we’ve cut one from the staff.”

On the changes in the backroom staff, striker Jon Shaw added: “Training kind of changes as they’re not doing their sessions and not putting their stamp on you, but at the same time, when the manager comes in, you expect slight light changes.

“You expect to do the same routines and same training drills anyway, but players don’t really get affected by it too much, unless you’ve got a really close relationship with the previous manager.

“It’s something you have to do, it’s football, ,managerrs change week in week out throughout the country you have to deal with it.

“We’re not training too heavy at the moment anyway as we’ve got quite a lot of games left, so we’re keeping it simple.”
