Still impressed by Town’s strength in depth

The Luton chief has had to cover injuries in key areas recently, with Alex Lacey missing the last few games, allowing summer signings Andy Parry and Jim Stevenson to showcase their undoubted potential.

Parry has moved seamlessly from midfield into central defence, while Stevenson gave a confident full debut during Hatters’ 3-0 win over Dartford on Tuesday night.

Still said: “What’s pleasing me is we’ve seen Alex Lacey do well in the team, we’ve seen (Andy) Parry do well in the team in two positions.

“Jim Stevenson is now getting into the team and I want to push the young players we’ve got.

“I think we’ve got some very, very, very good young players who are going to be a force for this football club.

“There needs to be a lot of hard work for all people behind the scenes to try and get the group of players that we’ve got that.

“We know we’ve got to work with them, we know we’ve got to make them better, we know they’re not the finished article, but it isn’t half exciting.”

Hatters bounced back to winning ways after a poor display against Wrexham on Friday night, losing 2-0, but despite the performance, Still didn’t allow himself to get too downhearted.

He added: “I was really pleased (against Dartford). Not necessarily with winning, as we lost on Friday and I was disappointed with the performance and myself.

“But I didn’t get too low about it as I don’t get too low. We’ve played well, scored goals and I’m not too high because I always keep it level.

“We really have got a good group of players and they were disappointed,

“Football’s a funny game though, sometimes for whatever reason it doesn’t work, it just doesn’t and we probably had one of them on Friday.

“We don’t need to have too many of them, but I think we get going and the season gets longer, I’ve seen enough of what we’re capable of against really good sides, against Kidderminster, Cambridge, Grimsby.

“I’ve seen enough of the good things that we can do to know that we’ve just planted the seeds, so I want to sit back and watch it grow.”
