Prior to the game on Tuesday night, that Luton went on to win 2-1, Mariners accounts manager Steve Wraith had said: “There has been a lot of interest from their end, and they probably think they’re coming here for another win to take them closer to the title.

“They’re cocky enough to think they’ve won it already – and maybe they have – but we can certainly put a spanner in the works, and help our chances of going up as well.”

In response, Stil said: “Someone pointed that out to me, and it would be a bit cocky of me to say, but I think the person who said it had nothing to do with the football team, if my memory serves me right.

“Sometimes people that are unaffected by it say stupid things.

“Whether he was saying that to try and give everyone a boost around it, which he may have done and I understand that.

“Obviously it didn’t work, so he’ll have to have another thing.”
