Still: Hatters becoming the full package

Hatters boss John Still thought his side showed signs of becoming the complete package in their convincing 3-0 win over former club Dagenham & Redbridge yesterday afternoon, writes Mike Simmonds.

After Mark Cullen had given the hosts an early lead, they went on to dominate their League Two opponents and made the result safe with second half strikes from Alex Lacey and Shaun Whalley.

Still said: “It was a strange game. I thought Dagenham had good possession in the first half and I don’t know whether Tuesday (beating Aston Villa 2-0), slowed us up a little bit.

“It took us a little bit of time to get going but in that period we knew how to defend, knew how to be narrow, that side of our game was very good.

“First half, our attacking side wasn’t particularly good, second half, I thought we had the full package.

“I thought we played very, very well and we won pretty comfortably.

“But like I said on Tuesday, it’s a pre-season game and I don’t think Dagenham will be too disappointed and I’m not too elated.”

Daggers boss Wayne Burnett, who replaced Still when he joined Luton in February, was left seething after the game though.

He said: “I’m not happy at all. Some of our players performances weren’t implemented, they need to understand what it take to win football matches because were were beaten by a team who knows how to win football matches.

“I thought we created some opportunties without capitalising as at times we were in control of the game without really hurting Luton.

“We conceded a goal after three minutes from lack of concentration on our marking and a ridiculous goal from a set piece we shouldn’t have done.”
