Still had no complaints over Iron victory

Looking to seal the Conference Premier title, Luton found themselves 2-0 down inside 22 minutes against a well-drilled and clinical Braintree side, and although Town rallied in the second half through goals from Jake Howells and Alex Wall, they were unable to pull off a stirring comeback that would have secured a long-awaited return to the Football League.

With over 10,000 fans making for a boisterous atmosphere inside Kenilworth Road, Still refused to use the occasion as an excuse for Town’s performance.

He said afterwards: “We didn’t do enough to win the game. We never played well enough in the first half. We did better in the second but overall we didn’t deserve to win the game.

“I’m less disappointed than if we had done enough to win the game but we haven’t played well enough. I’ve got no complaints about that.

“The thing we’re most disappointed about is that we’re not a team that concedes goals and their goals were too easy. The first goal was a replica of the Halifax goal and we said that to Fraser (Franks). It was the same goal - the fella didn’t even need to jump.

“That’s disappointing because we’ve done a lot of work on it, and then for about 15 minutes we went a bit gung-ho and got too caught up with all the excitement and had people running forward which allowed them a second goal, where really and truly we should have been patient and kept going and trying to do what we do.

“We don’t need any heroes, we just needed people to do their job – and whether that was down to the expectation and the crowd, it’s possible. But I’m not one for excuses. At the end of the day we were 2-0 down at half-time and deservedly so.”
