Southport an unknown quantity for Parry

The 22-year-old was part of the Sandgrounders side who lost 3-1 at Kenilworth Road last season, scoring the visitors only goal, before departing Haig Avenue for Luton during the summer.

Port are now under new management in former Aston Villa defender Alan Wright and have kept only a handful of Parry’s former team-mates as he said: “I’ve never played under this manager. From what I know he likes to play football so he might not change that (at Kenilworth Road.

“I don’t know too much about them as it’s a totally different team now, there’s only about four players left from last year.”

Hatters were beaten 1-0 by Southport on the opening game of the season and although Town’s opponents have lost eight of their last nine league games on the road, Parry isn’t taking anything for granted.

He said: “It should be another tough game which it always is in this league, so hopefully we can get another three points.

“In this league it doesn’t mean much (Southport’s away record), every game is totally different.

“They’re a part time team who are going to come here and going to be right up for it.”

A win would see Hatters back up to second and cutting the gap at the top as both Cambridge and Kidderminster are not in action this evening.

Parry was hoping a win would increase the pressure on the leaders as he said: “Maybe, hopefully. They’ve done well so far, but they were a good few points clear at one point.

“They know a lot of teams are catching them, so they might come under some pressure.

“The manager puts confidence in us and lets us know where we’re doing well, so long may it continue.”

Boss John Still wasn’t paying much attention to the teams above Hatters though as he added: “I don’t worry about the others, I can only control the controllables.

“I just worry about us, what we do, how we do it. At the end of the season after 46 games, the best team is going to be top of the table, so let’s see who that’s going to be.”
