Smith happy to fill in wherever he is asked

Hatters midfielder Jonathan Smith is more than happy to fill in at right back if needs be this season, writes Mike Simmonds.

The 26-year-old has made his name as a tough-tackling central midfielder, but was employed as a full back in the latter stages of last term.

He returned to the role on Saturday against Dagenham & Redbridge and speaking afterwards, said: “It doesn’t bother me at all. The way I am, I’ll give 100 per cent no matter where the gaffer wants me.

“If I’m on the side, right back, centre midfield, I will give my best for the club.”

Central midfield is an area were Town have got real strength in depth this season, with the likes of Luke Guttridge, Solomon Taiwo and Alex Lawless.

Town racked up another pre-season victory, with a confident 3-0 win over Dagenham & Redbridge at the weekend, but Smith isn’t getting carried away by his side’s form going into next Saturday’s opener at Southport.
