Smith could be recalled by York

York City are weighing up recalling on-loan midfielder Jonathan Smith from Luton Town on Monday, writes Mark Wood.

The combative midfielder is available to play in tomorrow’s FA Cup second round tie against Dorchester Town, which could prove to be his last match for the Hatters.

With Championship outfit Peterborough having recalled Danny Kearns, the Minstermen are now considering whether to send for the return of midfield pair Smith and Lee Bullock to Bootham Crescent.

City boss Gary Mills said: “To get the phone call about Kearnsy was a disappointment because he’s been doing well and gave us something a bit different but those are the rules.

“There’s also an option for us to bring back Jonathan Smith on Monday and we could do the same with Bully, who I’m getting good reports about from Gateshead.

“They are both getting games which is important and it might be time to bring one or both of them back but we will be fine tomorrow.

“We’ve still got options and I made a decision, along with my coaching staff, straight away about who will play instead and we’ve worked on that in training.”
