Shaw relieved right decision was made

Hatters striker Jon Shaw felt his team-mates reactions were proof that his last-gasp strike at Matlock on Saturday had crossed the line, writes Mike Simmonds.

With time almost up, Shaw fired an instinctive half volley goalwards that although Gladiators keeper Jon Kennedy got half a hand too, was ruled to have crossed the line, before Martin Foster could clear.

Matlock’s players were fuming the goal had been given, but as our picture clearly shows, the correct decision was made.

Shaw said: “I was nearly on the 18-yard line by the time it got given, but the lads near the line said it was a good yard over.

“They’re obviously going to say it didn’t, we’re obviously going to say it did, but thankfully the lineo and the referee gave it.”
