Sea of orange persuaded Franks to sign

Memories of a sea of orange at the City of Manchester Stadium helped sway Fraser Franks to sign for the Hatters this week, writes Mark Wood.

Having injured his knee ligaments earlier in the season, the young defender had to look on from the sidelines as AFC Wimbledon beat Luton in a penalty shoot-out to earn promotion in the 2011 Conference play-off final.

He said: “I was there on the pitch for the celebrations and in the dressing room with the boys beforehand.

“I think Wimbledon has got a good fanbase itself, but half the stadium was orange that day and they were making a lot more noise than the Wimbledon fans.

“Now I will be doing everything I possibly can to get Luton back into the Football League.”

Interest from another Conference club and a Football League team had instigated the release clause in his Welling contract, but he still opted for Luton.
