Ruthless result as Hatters need to improve both ends

RUTHLESSNESS at both ends is what Town need according to boss Gary Brabin following their 2-2 draw at Hayes & Yeading on Tuesday night, writes Mark Wood.

After the draw, the frustrated Luton manager said: “I’m very disappointed. I knew it would be a tough place to come. I think we’ve done enough to win the game.

“We came off and we’ve conceded two really silly goals like we have and we’ve had to work really hard for our two goals and missed two penalties as well and I’m really disappointed with that today.

“The lads we’ve got at the minute are a good group of lads and good players, but we need to be more ruthless in both boxes.

“We certainly weren’t ruthless in our own box and conceded those two silly goals.

“We’ve created a lot of chances but no-one’s ruthless enough in the box to score the goals. We’ve been given two penalties and haven’t been able to put them away.

“The lads at the moment are doing well. Amari’s (Morgan-Smith) scored a few goals. We are creating that many chances and need someone who will be that bit more ruthless in the box.

“We’ve played some nice stuff and could have and should have scored more goals.

“If we can just be a little more ruthless. It’s very unforgiving when you come away from home and draw 2-2 and miss two penalties.

“It’s a tough place to come and I thought we did enough today to win it.”

And he admitted the injury which forced the impressive Jake Howells off with Town leading 2-1 was probably pivotal in Luton not going on to win the game. Brabin said: “The way we prepared for this game was for both full-backs to push on.

“When Jake got injured we had to change that a little bit.

“Unfortunately Ed (Asafu-Adjaye) made that mistake. We practice the same things every day in training and Ed will be the first to admit he should have done better.”

On the Welsh U21 international’s injury, Brabin added: “He got a kick on Saturday and thought he would be OK for today. I thought it was another crude challenge and he has had to come off. So we will have to assess it.”
