Rowe-Turner felt luck was out in Newport draw

Disappointed defender Lathaniel Rowe-Turner admitted his luck was out as he was jointly culpable for Newport’s first equaliser in Tuesday’s 2-2 draw against the Hatters at Kenilworth Road, writes Mark Wood.

Twice the Exiles pegged Town back due to defensive errors with Rowe-Turner’s sliced clearance leading to Christian Jolley’s initial leveller.

The frustrated 23-year-old defender said: “My first thought was to let Brillo (Dean Brill) come out and claim it, but it sort of slowed up a bit so I thought I had to try and deal with it. I shanked the clearance and didn’t clear it as well as I wanted.

“He (Jolley) got a bit of luck because he had a shot and I blocked it and it fell straight to his feet and he’s finished it. It was very frustrating.

“It’s always disappointing to concede two goals, but I think we did well.”

Rowe-Turner felt Hatters had really deserved all three points on the night after their first 45 minutes.

He said: I think we dominated the first half, but then second half didn’t really come out as sharp as we wanted and they punished us really.

“When you do so well in the first half you don’t want half time so when it comes we get in there and try to settle down a little bit. We want to kick on again second half, but sometimes it doesn’t always happen like that.”

Luton’s supporters have also responded well to Town’s recent good showings and that too is helping the players according to the former Torquay man.

“It’s been good for the last few games and all the boys appreciate it and it’s a much nicer environment to be in,” he said.

Rowe-Turner is hoping they will be able to serve up more of the same against Ebbsfleet at Kenilworth Road on Thursday night, saying: “We want the three points just to please the fans a bit more. They’re happy to be here and cheering so it’s a good feeling for the players to have the fans on our side and just want to show them what we can do really.”

With the end of the season looming large he doesn’t want to become too laid back despite the pressure being off with no play-offs to contest, adding: “You don’t want to be too relaxed, you want to go out there and work hard and you want to do your job.

“You can relax in the summer which is close. We want to play our last game, play well and get the three points at home against Ebbsfleet.”
