The former Swindon Town and Gillingham wideman joined from Maidstone in March, signing until the end of the season.

On his hopes of a permanent stay though, Rooney said: “I think it was something the gaffer wanted to do long term straight away when I signed, but he made it public that I preferred to do a shorter term.

“Pretty much straight away, we had a chat and I liked what I saw, liked what I experienced.

“I can’t see any reason why something can’t be sorted out.”

Rooney made six appearances for Town as they honed in on the Skrill Premier title and was satisfied with his impact, while after moving up two divisions to join Town, he is now looking forward to improving his fitness during pre-season.
