Boss John Still had been looking to see the former Leicester City Academy youngster in action and plunged him in at the deep end against leaders Kidderminster Harriers at Kenilworth Road.

The teenager produced a combative performance and grew into the game and even set up Andre Gray for Town’s late consolation in the 2-1 defeat.

And he revealed that he’d tried to ‘blank out’ that it was the league leaders Town were playing, saying: “I’m going to be a bit nervous, but the people you’re playing against you should try and blank that out and just concentrate on your game and the team that you’re playing with.

“If you think about them too much you are going to lose track basically of everything else that’s going on.

With Town having played just two days previous, Still felt it was the right time to give Robinson his chance, as the youngster explained: “He just told me to be patient.

“I’m young and he’s trying to get the feel of all the players who he’s got in the squad so having to wait is just a natural part of things.

“It makes a lot of sense seeing as the lads had a game on Saturday and then again two days later, it seemed like the perfect time to put someone in because the lads are going to be fatigued.

“I haven’t had a chance to speak to the gaffer yet (about how I did) but I’m sure I’ll have a sit down and talk with him.”

And Robinson felt Luton were unfortunate not to get anything out of the encounter, adding: “I think we were unlucky, I mean we’ve hit the bar twice, a great effort by (Scott) Rendell in the first half.

“Then, to be honest, I don’t like to blame referees or anything but I think their second goal had a bit of an air of misfortune about the decision.

“I think there was a push, I thought it was a foul, but obviously my opinion doesn’t matter. The referee didn’t give it and they went on and scored.

“But apart from that I think as the half went on in the second half we continued to progress towards getting a goal and then when we finally got one we pushed on, but it was just maybe a little bit too late.”
