Robinson returns to Northampton for now

Attacker Jake Robinson has headed back to Northampton Town after his loan deal at Kenilworth Road expired following Tuesday night’s 1-0 defeat to Hereford, writes Mike Simmonds.

The 26-year-old has played nine times since joining Luton and had his original loan extended by a month.

Although he has started just two games since his arrival, manager Paul Buckle hasn’t ruled out bringing him back once more.

The boss said: “With that (loan deal) ending after Tuesday and we had Wednesday off, I’ve let him go back and will be speaking to Northampton.

“Whether we’re going to push that on for another month or whether we’re going to come away from it for a bit, I’ll make my mind up on that today.”

Fellow loan signing Jonathan Smith impressed on his debut at Hereford and Buckle has been delighted with his immediate impact already.

He added: “I really like him. I talked to the players before the game and said the main reason I brought Jonathan to the club is that he’s made of the right stuff.

“He fits in with what we’re trying to do. I didn’t want to disrupt what we have. We’ve got a great team spirit, will to win and work ethic and I don’t want to spoil that.

“He fits in where that concerns, he’s very mobile and skillful on the ball.

“Jonathan’s a great lad and if you’re a real great lad, you’ve got a real determination about you, then add a bit of skill to that and mobility and you really come up with a good player.

“There are energisers and energy sappers. He’s not the latter.

“When talk to someone you get a feeling of, I need you to wake you up, or he wakes me up.

“They’re the type of players I like to sign and I’ve got a lot in the building now.”
