Return to terracing is an option in the Hatters’ future

Luton Town have revealed they would be open-minded about reintroducing standing at a redeveloped Kenilworth Road or to any new stadium, writes Mark Wood.

Thirteen Football League clubs backed the Football Supporters’ Federation’s calls to reintroduce standing at football grounds last month.

While Luton were not among those teams named, which included the likes of derby rivals Watford, they remain receptive to the idea.

Managing director Gary Sweet said: “If there was a solution to standing that meant that first and foremost supporters were safe, B that the authorities accepted those safety proposals, and C that commercially a standing environment was as good if not better than seating then we would be fully supportive of those proposals.

“I think the issue with current proposals is B right now. The authorities aren’t really supporting the solutions that are currently available to us.

“I’m not entirely convinced that there is a commercial case for it right now, however, as a principle we would love to have standing back.”
