Results go Luton’s way as County suffer shock defeat

Hatters’ title hopes were given a huge boost by yesterday’s Blue Square Bet Premier matches that beat the weather, writes Mike Simmonds.

With Town’s trip to Nuneaton postponed, Newport County could have gone top of the table, but fell to a shock 2-0 home defeat against previously bottom of the league Barrow, whom Luton hammered 6-1 at Kenilworth Road earlier this month.

The result saw County remain in second and stay six points above Luton, who now have two games in hand on the Welsh side.

Meanwhile, Forest Green Rovers were beaten 2-1 by managerless Stockport County, while Kidderminster fell to a 1-0 defeat at Macclesfield.

Mansfield are just two points behind Luton though having played the same amount of games as they won 2-1 at Southport.

Town are scheduled to be back in action on Tuesday night when they are home to Lincoln City, who are just three points above the relegation zone.
