Rendell deal collapses as Town miss out on new signing

Unwanted Hatters striker Scott Rendell missed out on a permanent move away from Kenilworth Road at the 11th-hour on transfer deadline day as the interested club pulled out of the deal, writes Mark Wood and Mike Simmonds.

Managing director Gary Sweet revealed: “We agreed a deal with one club who backed out at 10pm.

“Another club was interested but there was insufficient time remaining.”

With Rendell staying put, it meant Town missed out on the prospect of bringing in a new addition, as boss John Still said: “If we’d have lost one more, two would have been better, I might have been able to say to the club, shall we do this? I had my finger on the trigger with it as I know the person. He’s a Football League player, but it couldn’t work at the time.”
